Reconciliation partnerships accepting applications

Organisations working to support important reconciliation outcomes are encouraged to applyfor SA Water’s 2023-24 Pirku-Itya (Reconciliation) Partnerships Program, with up to $10,000 available for each partnership.

Pirku-Itya is a Kaurna word meaning ‘for community’, with the annual program providing funding for grassroots community events and projects that contribute to reconciliation in South Australia.

SA Water’s Acting Senior Manager of Brand, Communications and Media Kellie McDonald said the utility wants to partner with not-for-profit groups which have a clear link to SA Water’s vision of delivering trusted water services for a sustainable and healthy South Australia and are dedicated to taking strides towards reconciliation.

“We’re looking for groups who promote the health and wellbeing of active, thriving communities through a cooler or greener environment, or are showcasing proactive environmental leadership and sustainability,” Kellie said.

"Since Pirku-Itya was established in 2020, we’ve partnered with 19 organisations from across regional and metropolitan areas of the state.

“From establishing a community garden in Glossop with the Aboriginal Sobriety Group, to working with the Adelaide Contemporary Experimental organisation to increase the understanding, value and recognition of Aboriginal cultural learning and skills in the Coorong, each of our partnerships are making a difference in helping achieve reconciliation outcomes.

“We recognise the important role Aboriginal communities play in caring for land and water, and we are committed to working collaboratively with these groups to achieve our shared vision of a sustainable future.

“Underpinning these collaborations is our ongoing commitment to reconciliation and building strong respectful relationships with Aboriginal communities and promoting cultural awareness and understanding.

“Pirku-Itya is a key part of this effort, and we encourage any group with a project or event that meets our criteria to apply for this year's program.”

Applications for 2023-24 Pirku-Itya close 28 July 2023. For more information and to apply visit sawater.com.au.
