Shared water meters

Shared water meters

If you are part of a strata or community title corporation group, your water meter may be shared. A common water meter is read every three months, and payment of water used by residents is the joint responsibility of your group.

There are two ways to pay your bill:

  • Pay the total water use charges in one payment or
  • Have SA Water divide water use charges between all owners and provide individual water and sewer accounts. Your group will receive a notice every three months showing water use as well as a comparison of use over previous periods. Accounts will be posted to each owner every three months and there is no fee for this service.

You can choose your group's preferred billing option by filling out this application form.

Retirement village billing arrangements

In 2018, the South Australian Government established a joint committee to consider the valuation policies and charges for retirement villages.

The committee recommended the creation of one valuation assessment for the entire retirement village rather than individual valuation assessment records for each Independent Living Unit (ILU) within the village.

As a result, we changed the way we assess and bill retirement villages to ensure fairer billing. From 1 July 2021, we no longer issue separate bills for each ILU.

Instead, there will be one bill for each retirement village, which will include one water supply charge and sewerage access charge, based on the valuation for the entire village.

Where the property has more than one meter, all water use will be consolidated and billed on the one account. An additional annual meter fee will be billed for each additional meter.

State government concessions will continue to be provided by the Department for Human Services (DHS). For more information on concessions, visit the DHS website.
